Our Core Values
We firmly believe in professionalism, punctuality, compassion, and a genuine desire to help individuals learn how to read. These values have positively shaped our services and made our company the way it is today.
Why Choose Us
A Warm, Homey Atmosphere
We have an entire floor of the home dedicated to the students, including two well-equipped classrooms and a bathroom. A waiting room for parents and guardians is also available just a few steps away.
Our location is clean and well-organized, bringing an environment suitable for learning. Students and parents appreciate that our location does not feel like an office.
Specialized Instructors
Our instructors genuinely love children and are highly skilled in what they do. We create a safe and supportive atmosphere for our students and always aim to be effective communicators with parents and school staff.
Accessible for Anyone
We are making lessons possible for students at local schools through special arrangements. This allows students to receive valuable education during the school day instead of burdening children who are already working hard to learn.
Our Team
Carol Stather, Owner and Instructor
Since childhood, Carol planned to become a teacher. She achieved her goals after earning her Bachelor’s degree and an elementary school teaching credential from San Jose State University. In 1979, she began her teaching career in Gilroy, California.
Carol trained in the Slingerland® Approach—Introductory Course in 1980 and the Second Level Continuum in 1981. She was one of the original staff members to use this method at Eliot School in Gilroy Unified School District, where students who struggled with the language arts were given the help they needed.
While at Eliot School, Carol taught first and fourth-grade classes. She also had her own three children during these times and had a stint teaching first grade at Rod Kelley Elementary School.
In 1993, Carol helped a dyslexic child achieve success through the Slingerland® Approach after moving to Oregon with her family. This led to her starting a tutoring business using her teaching expertise and working with numerous children over the years. Working at home was ideal for her since she could assist her own children, substitute teach on occasion, and tutor other children in the afternoon from her home office.
Word of Carol’s skills led to her being asked to teach at the local elementary school part-time and referred from the Child Development and Rehabilitation Center at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon. She received more referrals from satisfied parents and teachers who witnessed progress from their students with the help of Carol’s instruction.
In 2004, the state of Oregon recognized Carol as a highly qualified teacher (HQT) in accordance with the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Federal Act. Though she became a registered nurse in 2008, she missed her work with her students and went back to her first love, which is teaching.
Carol moved to Highlands Ranch, Colorado in 2010 to be near her daughter and established Reading Stat! She then completed the Third Level Slingerland Continuum in 2013 and helped organize and teach the Introductory Level Slingerland Continuum in 2015.
Carol is a member of the International Dyslexia Association, its Colorado branch (The Rocky Mountain Branch), and the Slingerland® Institute for Literacy. She is also part of the provider lists for these organizations as well as the Denver Children’s Hospital and the Douglas County Dyslexia Resource Group of Colorado. In addition, she is a member of P.E.O., a women’s philanthropic educational organization, and volunteers with a local community service organization.
When Carol is not working, she spends time with her family and friends, as well as her hobbies. These include gardening, home improvement, volunteering, exploring Colorado, and reading. She firmly believes that learning is a lifelong process!
